A Designer’s Entrepreneurial Journey on the Road Less Traveled
What does it take to build a globally recognized luxury brand – and then pivot toward a new chapter? Legendary shoe designer Stuart Weitzman joins us at Vassar for an energizing conversation on creativity, entrepreneurship, and the power of reinvention.
Weitzman will reflect on taking risks, learning from failure, and what it means to truly serve the community you’re designing for. His talk will be shaped by questions submitted by Vassar students in advance, offering a tailored and engaging conversation for anyone curious about fashion, business, or creative leadership.
Following his 5:00 pm campus talk, renowned designer and entrepreneur Stuart Weitzman will join a small group of 6–12 students for an intimate mentoring dinner. This is a unique opportunity to connect with one of fashion’s most influential voices and gain personal insight into creativity, entrepreneurship, and building a meaningful career.
Open to all class years and majors. Students interested in fashion, entrepreneurship, design, business, or creative careers are especially encouraged to apply.
Applicants are asked to share a resume and respond to short questions about their interests, goals, and experiences. As Stuart puts it, “I like to know who they are, what their hopes and dreams might be, and the activities that have filled their lives so far.”

Stuart Weitzman is the founder and namesake of the internationally renowned luxury shoe brand known for combining bold design with engineering precision. His shoes have been worn by women world wide, from Beyoncé to Kate Middleton.
After decades at the helm of his company, which was acquired by Coach in 2015, Weitzman now focuses on philanthropy, education, and mentoring the next generation of creative entrepreneurs, by sharing his passion with students, helping them find their own path to success.
